All about the Exploring Bhutan Group Tour – Drive In Drive Out.

No Of Days: 9 Days / 10 Nights                                 Visiting Months: Starts April and can visit till end of October

Nothing could be more striking than the pristine, haunting beauty of the landscape of Bhutan, or the atmosphere of peace and sacredness, which pervades the land from end to end.

Bhutan holds many surprises. This is a country where the rice is red and where chillies aren’t just a seasoning but the main dish. It’s also a deeply Buddhist land, where monks check their smartphones after performing a divination, and where giant protective penises are painted beside the entrance to many houses.

High Season (Mar–May, Sep–Nov)

  • The weather is ideal in spring and autumn. Book flights well in advance; accommodation options can fill up.
  • Himalayan views are best in October, while rhododendron blooms peak in March and April.

Shoulder Season (Dec–Feb)

  • Bhutan has seasonal tariffs so there’ll be fewer tourists and good savings to be made by traveling outside the high season.
  • The weather is still pleasant, though it can be cold in December and January.

Low Season (Jun–Aug)

  • Monsoon rains and leeches put an end to most treks, although high-altitude flowers are at their peak.

Bhutan has a fairly formal dress code for both Bhutanese and visitors. A shirt with a collar, preferably long sleeves, and long trousers are required to enter a temple or monastery. For women. a skirt or trousers are fine. One set of slightly smart clothes is good for hotel dinners and during festivals when everyone wears their finest threads. Remember to dress in layers as temperatures vary a lot during the day, especially in spring and autumn. A swimming costume is useful for hot-stone baths and hot springs. A compact umbrella or rain jacket is useful any time of the year. Bring slip-on shoes, as you’ll need to take them off at every temple or monastery.

Children aged under five are exempt from Tour charges and five-to-12-year-olds get a 50% discount, so it needn’t break the bank if you bring kids along. Kids may become bored with long, monotonous drives, limited availability of TV and the internet, and little other entertainment available. On the other hand, they will be immediately accepted by local kids and their families, and they could make many new friends.
