ENTRY FORMALITIES FOR INDIAN NATIONALS TRAVELLING TO BHUTAN

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ISSUING ENTRY PERMIT

FOR ADULT

  1. Personal presence
  2. 04 Recent Color Photograph (as a standby precaution for all travelers).
  3. Original Indian Passport OR Election Identity card ONLY for all passengers traveling to Bhutan.
  4. Indian national if flying to/from Bhutan, to/from to any second country require six-month valid passport only

OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) & PIO (Person of Indian Origin) passport are not considered as a valid document in Bhutan, as Indian Citizen proof.

All NRI, OCI & PIO passport holder will be considered foreign nationals & will have to pay the Visa Fee in USD RATE as fixed by the Bhutan Government. All foreign nationals’ tourists must obtain a visa clearance prior to travel to Bhutan. Foreign nationals are required to send the photo-page of their passport to us & we will apply for their visa. For your kind information, the visa will be processed by the TCB (Tourism Council of Bhutan) once the full payment for the holiday (including USD $40 visa fee) has been wire transferred and received by the TCB. At the point of entry foreign nationals will have to show their visa clearance letter, for the visa to be stamped into their passport.]

 

FOR CHILDREN

  1. Personal presence
  2. 04 Recent Color Photograph (as a standby precaution for all travelers).
  3. School / College identity card along with original Birth Certificate. They must be accompanied by their parents with Election ID card / Valid Indian Passport. (Bona-fide letter from School or College are not valid documents for Bhutan Entry for minors.
  4. Indian national if flying to/from Bhutan, to/from to any second country require six-month valid passport only

 

ENTERING BHUTAN BY AIR

While collecting your airlines boarding pass you are given 02 forms at the Druk air counter namely:-

  1. Embarkation & Disembarkation Card (form) You are required to fill up the Form completely and submit the same to the Authority. The concerned officer retains the Disembarkation Card and returns the embarkation card back to you which is again required while exiting Bhutan. Please do not lose this card.
  2. Immigration form (Yellow form) You are required to fill and submit this form at the immigration counter while getting the entry permit at Bhutan airport.
  3. Bhutan entry permit
  1. For valid Passport holder – The Bhutan entry permit are stamped on the passport itself. It is must to carry your passport while traveling & taking inter point connection. You will not be allowed to leave the country without stamping the exit on it.
  2. For Election Id card – The Bhutan entry permit are issued separately on papers after verifying Election Id card. This is a must documents to be carried while travelling & taking inter point connection. You are also advised to make photo copy for the paper permit and keep it in safe custody as you will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original. This paper permit is also required to make the Pink Permit for visiting any other area other than Thimphu & Paro.

Notes:

  1. Point of first stay in Bhutan will be your address in Bhutan for the Card.
  2. With this entry permit one is allowed to visit Paro, Thimphu & Phuntsholing. Separate Special permit (Pink Permit) is required to be obtained to visit all others area i.e Haa, Punakha, Wangdi & beyond, These permit is issued in lieu to the permit procured at the entry point. The Pink permit is done at the Thimphu permit office only on working day (Monday – Friday) excluding Saturday, Sunday & Bhutan national Holidays. (Kindly refer to the Bhutan Holiday list for screening the Holidays of Bhutan).
  3. You are also advised to make photo copy for the paper permit issued at Paro or Phuntsholing and keep it in safe custody as you will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original.
  4. Time taken for issuance of permit is entirely based on the permit officer. General it is seen that in Festival time and holidays time taken are longer compare to normal days.

EXITING BHUTAN BY AIR

While collecting your airline’s boarding pass you are given 02 forms at the Druk air counter namely :

  1. Declaration form for Departing Passengers (Blue form) – You are required to fill it and submit at the immigration counter along with the entry permit (original copy) and Embarkation card which is given to you while entering Bhutan.
  2. Immigration form (Yellow form) – You are required to fill up this Immigration form (yellow form) and this form has to be submitted at the immigration counter at the final port of disembarkation, i.e Bagdogra, Kolkata, Delhi & others airport connected by Druk air in India.
  3. c) Bhutan entry permit – This is the same paper permit issued while entering Bhutan. You will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original.

Notes:

  1. Declaration form basically states that you are not carrying any prohibited items out of Bhutan.
  2. Embarkation form is the leftover form while entering Bhutan.
  3. Yellow form is basically a self-declaration of items carried by you on flight i.e. number of check-in baggage, hand baggage & duty & duty-free items.

ENTERING BHUTAN BY SURFACE

 

Bhutan entry permits are issued from the immigration office at Phuntsholing only on working day (Monday – Friday) excluding Saturday, Sunday & Bhutan national Holidays. (Kindly refer to the Bhutan Holiday list for screening the Holidays of Bhutan)

  1. You are required to visit the immigration office along with your guide/driver at the Bhutan entry gate to obtain your Bhutan entry permit. (Personal presence is a must for obtaining the permit)
  2. For Surface travelers, Bhutan entry permits are issued separately in papers after verifying the documents this is a must document to be carried while traveling & taking inter-point connection. You are also advised to make photocopy for the paper permit and keep it in safe custody as you will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original This paper permit is also required to make the Pink Permit for visiting any other area other than Thimphu & Paro.

 

This permit is issued in lieu of the documents in sequence.

1) Duly filled entry form

2) Recent passport size photograph

3) Valid passport / Election Id card / Citizenship proof copy

 

Notes:

  1. Point of the first stay in Bhutan will be your address in Bhutan for the Card.
  2. With this entry permit, one is allowed to visit Paro, Thimphu & Phuntsholing. A separate Special permit is required to be obtained to visit Punakha, Wangdi and above, which are issued in lieu with the above entry permits at Thimphu only.
  3. You are also advised to make a photocopy of the paper permit issued at Paro or Phuntsholing and keep it in safe custody as you will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original.
  4. Time taken for issuance of a permit is entirely based on the permit office and the workload, General it is seen that in Festival time and holidays time taken are longer compared to normal days.

EXITING BHUTAN BY SURFACE

While exiting from Phuntsholing you will have to surrender the original entry permit which was given to you while entering Bhutan at the immigration office, Karbandi, which is 5 km before Phuntsholing. You will not be allowed to leave the country without surrendering this paper permit in original, issued at Paro or Phuntsholing.
